What Florida car shipping costs

Florida pricing is driven by season as much as distance. Snowbird traffic runs heavy southbound from October and reverses in spring, and capacity on Northeast–Florida lanes tightens in both peaks. Our published long-haul reference rate is about $0.58 per mile on typical long-distance routes.

Common Florida corridors Distances are approximate driving miles. Rates shown are derived from our published long-haul reference rate and are estimates, not quotes.
Route Approx. distance Open transport estimate Notes
New York → Florida ~1,200 mi from ~$696 Heaviest snowbird lane. Book four to six weeks ahead for October through December.
Illinois → Florida ~1,200 mi from ~$696 Midwest snowbird corridor. Same seasonal pattern as the Northeast.
California → Florida ~2,600 mi from ~$1,508 Longest lane we run to Florida. Best per-mile economics.
Within Florida under 500 mi short-haul rate Short moves price above the long-haul per-mile rate.
Enclosed transport any premium Common for classic and exotic vehicles moving to Florida collections.

Estimates above multiply approximate corridor distance by our published long-haul reference rate. They are a planning aid, not an offer. Actual pricing depends on pickup and delivery ZIP codes, vehicle dimensions, operating condition, transport type and current carrier availability on the lane.

Florida rules that affect your shipment

Registration requirements differ sharply by state. Check these before your vehicle ships, not after it arrives.

10 days to register

New Florida residents must title and register within 10 days of establishing residency, per the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. That is the shortest window of any major state.

Florida insurance required

You must obtain insurance from an agent licensed to sell insurance in Florida. Out-of-state policies cannot be verified and will generate a letter of suspension to the new resident.

Physical VIN verification

Florida requires the VIN to be physically inspected and verified by a law enforcement officer, military police officer, licensed Florida dealer, or county tax collector employee. Paperwork alone is not enough.

Florida car shipping FAQ

How long does it take to ship a car to Florida?
Transit depends on the corridor. A Northeast origin covers roughly 1,200 miles; a West Coast origin is more than twice that. Snowbird season lengthens windows on both, because carrier capacity is committed further out.
When is the cheapest time to ship a car to Florida?
Outside the snowbird peaks. Southbound demand surges from October through December and northbound reverses in spring. Shipping in late summer usually finds more available capacity on the same lane.
Do I need Florida insurance before my car arrives?
You need it before you can title and register, and the clock is ten days from establishing residency. Florida will not verify an out-of-state policy, so arrange Florida coverage early rather than after arrival.
Do I have to be there for pickup and delivery?
Someone over 18 must be present at both ends to release the vehicle, sign the Bill of Lading and inspect condition. A friend, relative or colleague can act on your behalf if you name them in advance.
Can I ship a car to Florida during hurricane season?
Yes, though weather can delay a lane without notice. Carriers will not run into an active storm path. Build flexibility into your delivery window between June and November.
Do you ship non-running vehicles to Florida?
Yes, with winch-equipped carriers. Say so when you request the quote, because it changes which carriers can take the load and affects the rate. Rolling, steering and braking status all matter.
